Answers to some frequently-asked questions
What will I receive as part of the Hester Painting & Decorating franchise system?
You will complete training at our headquarters, plus you will receive pre-opening help at your own location. Your craftsmen will be trained on the latest painting and decorating techniques. You will have access to all the Hester proprietary software systems, our virtual showroom, and established procedures. You will receive, among other things, a detailed manual to help with day-to-day operations. You will also have the rights to use our trademarks.
Do I need to have experience in the painting industry?
You don't have to have painting or decorating experience; we will show you how to hire qualified craftsmen and we will train them. And, we will give you the tools you need to run your business. We do expect that you show a dedication to quality and customer service, and that you have the right amount of capital to invest in the franchise.
What is the initial fee?
The franchise fee is $50,000. This fee funds our pre-opening support of your operation, including initial headquarters-based training and onsite assistance.
How much is the initial investment?
As with any new business venture, it’s important that you have the capital needed to adequately fund the business. The investment is estimated to be between $125,200 and $215,800, excluding real estate lease costs. The initial franchise fee is already included in these figures. Cash requirements may be lessened if certain items are financed. Financing options include SBA loans and penalty-free use of your 401(k) funds.
What is the term of the franchise agreement?
The initial term of your Hester Painting & Decorating agreement is 5 years, with three subsequent 5-year renewal terms.
Are there ongoing fees paid to Hester Franchising, LLC?
Franchisees will be required to pay a royalty of 6%, which is reduced to 5% upon opening your showroom. These fees allow us to fund our ongoing support services and the continued development of new procedures, marketing tools, training programs, and systems upgrades. There is also a Technology Fee of up to $100 per month for the website and estimating software maintenance and upgrades.
Are there any advertising fees?
Franchisees may be required to spend between 2-4% of revenues on local marketing, and up to 1½% of gross revenues toward a system marketing fund. Funds are used to develop marketing strategies to promote the Hester Painting & Decorating brand and fund the creative costs to develop local franchise marketing materials.
What training will I receive?
Hester Franchising, LLC provides extensive training. We will provide up to 7 days of training that covers business operations and management, as well as 12 days of painting & faux finishing training. We require that at least 2 of your hired painting staff members attend the painting & faux training. There is no additional charge for these training services, but you must pay any travel and living expenses while attending the training at our headquarters.
What about ongoing support?
We will provide ongoing support services to you by phone, email, and periodic on-site visits to your location. Plus, we regularly update our operations manual with new procedures and other information designed to improve operations for all franchisees.
