Hester Painting & Decorating Questions

Q- Do you offer a warranty for your work?
Yes, we are so confident in the quality of our work, we give our customers a Two-Year Workmanship Warranty in writing.  As a savvy consumer, you will want to insist on such a warranty from every contractor you work with.  The key component to look for in a painter’s warranty is a provision that the labor to repair faulty work is included.  Many contractors will try to pass on only the paint manufacturer’s warranty, which only covers the materials.

Q- I understand you have a Showroom.  What can I see there and where is it located?
You will be able to see and touch more than 50 full-size sample walls of our different faux and specialty finishes.  Many of them are exclusives, developed by and only available through Hester Painting & Decorating.  Please call us for directions and hours of operation.

Q- What is the difference between Hester Painting & Decorating and other painters?
There are three important benefits you’ll experience when you choose Hester:
1 – Quality.  We offer the highest degree of precision and quality.  Our fully trained craftsmen are experienced in our techniques and are highly educated about the importance of proper preparation - the most important part of any paint job.
2 – Exclusive Finishes.  In addition to our impeccable quality, our artistic painters create finishes that no other contractor can duplicate.
3 – Impeccable Service.  We are known for our customer service because we go to extremes to make sure the customer is delighted with the final product.  We have even repainted a customer’s room solely because we were not happy with it even though the customer was satisfied.

Q - Every painter claims to provide “quality” work.  How does Hester Painting & Decorating stand above the rest and actually back up the word with results?
While it is easy to claim quality work, the proof is in the details.  Hester Painting & Decorating ensures the highest quality in three ways.  First, our experts test all new products and techniques and use only the best.  Second, our well-trained painters understand the importance of careful preparation and are committed to creating enduring beauty with every job.  Third, we continue to stand behind our work long after the job is complete with our two-year warranty and our exclusive six-month follow-up inspection.

Q- Why is preparation so important?
In a word, longevity.  Almost anyone can apply paint to a wall; however, that doesn’t mean that they will do a good job that will last for years.  The key reason a great paint job lasts is proper preparation.  Preparation is the most important part of the job and is essential to creating enduring quality and beauty.

Q- I noticed a sample in the showroom that I loved, but is it possible to make it in a different color?
Yes, our techniques are available in a wide variety of colors.  Our showrooms are meant to be a guide for your imagination to determine which of these finishes will look best in your house.  Once you have chosen Hester as your painter and you have determined the type of finish that you would like, we can make samples of the finish in the appropriate colors for your home.

Q- I have a very unique set of draperies that I would love to match the color of my walls to.  Is this possible or am I limited to the colors on the paint charts?
Yes, it is absolutely possible.  Our supervisors and specialty painters are experts in color matching.  We offer custom color matching on site for almost any item ranging from furniture to draperies to a picture you saw in a magazine.  When you work with Hester, there is never a need to limit yourself to a paint manufacturer’s color chart.

Q- What if I cannot get to your showroom during your normal business hours?
Since our showroom is one of a kind, we feel it is important for you to see it in person.   We will make every effort to accommodate your schedule with special times either early in the morning, later in the evening or even occasionally on weekends.

Q- If I cannot come to your showrooms, do you have any other way to help me see samples of your work?
Although seeing our showroom in person is the only way to get a true representation of our work, we realize that not everyone can make it here.  With this in mind, we developed a website that includes a Virtual Showroom and customer portfolio examples.  Please visit us at
www.hesterdecorating.com.  We can also bring sample boards to your home.

Q- What if I need the work completed immediately?  Do you work on weekends?
Yes.  We can accommodate you.  Do know that if you require us to work weekends or overtime, there is an additional charge stipulated in your contract.

Q- What kind of paints do you use?
We use different paint products for different desired finishes.  Some of the paints we use include:

  • Benjamin Moore
  • Sherwin Williams
  • PPG
  • ICI Dulux

We believe in using the best product for the job.  We are always willing to use one of the new designer brands if you desire; however, we will advise you that these products are generally more expensive and usually do not provide better results.  In addition, they will usually increase your labor costs due to less surface area coverage per gallon and reduced coverability.

Q- When I decide that I want to go ahead with the work, what do I do with the proposal?
You sign one of the copies, and mail it back with the deposit listed on your contract.  Once both of these are received, the work will be scheduled.

Q- I have other work that I would like to have done in my house.  Do you recommend other trades like carpenters, plumbers or carpet companies?
Yes, we have a list of Preferred Vendors that we have worked with in the past and can attest to their quality and service.  We would be happy to give you any recommendation and phone numbers that you would like from our list.

Q- Do I need to stay home while the workers are in my house?
Of course, you are always welcome to stay, but you only need to be there for approval of the colors and samples, or to bring up any questions or comments.  Many of our customers prefer to just give us a set of keys and the alarm code if necessary, and go about their business.  Some of our customers even like to plan our work around their vacations.

Q- I have furniture and art work in the room that you will be painting.  Will you take care of moving everything when you arrive to start the work?
We will move smaller, lightweight furniture.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but for liability and safety reasons, it is the customer’s responsibility to clear the work areas of any valuable items, including draperies, paintings, electronics, glassware, etc.

Q- What if I am allergic to paint fumes or if they bother me?
Many paint products do have fumes or odors.  For our allergy sensitive customers, there are specialty products available with low odor content.  It is, however, the customer’s responsibility to report any sensitivity or allergies to any paint products prior to the commencement of the work.  If special arrangements need to be made, an additional charge may apply.

Q- Is there going to be a mess?
Cleanliness is a priority for us.  So while there is naturally a certain degree of dust involved with any paint project, we take all precautions to contain as much mess as possible.  This includes using only freshly laundered drop cloths, covering all furniture in the area with double protection of plastic and drop cloths, and covering air vents and returns.

Q- Can I have someone else paint the walls and then have Hester Painting & Decorating do the specialty finishes so I can cut the cost?
While you certainly can try this, we do not recommend it.  Keep in mind that the appearance of the walls prior to the application of our specialty finishes will dictate how the final product looks.  If the work performed by a cheaper painter is a lower quality, we cannot guarantee the quality of the final finish.  There is no substitute for doing it right the first time.
